The Hopper3 works fine with my old WD MyBook 2TB, USB2 EHD on any of the three USB ports...
1 USB2 and one USB3 port on rear panel and one USB3 port on front panel.

However, the Hopper3 will not yet work with a USB3 version of a WD MyBook, which is Dish spec compliant.
external power supply, single disk, and no more than 2TB.

I have been told that the engineers at Dish will eventually have the software updated to work with USB3 devices.
As it stands now, the Hopper3 does NOT recognize the existence of a USB3 EHD in order to apply the Dish proprietary format structure.

USB3 is approx 10 times faster than USB2 and file transfers take much less time using USB3 devices.

My new EHD is not malfunctioning, I used WD proprietary software to confirm its health and functionality......
it is solely a Dish issue which will not recognize the presence of a USB3 EHD in order to format it using Dish's propriety formatting structure.

I have tried formatting new EHD with both NTSF and FAT32 to "force" Hopper to recognize it.

Hello allamericanmarc. I want to try to update this and get it working. I will need a Private Message with your account or phone number. Then I will send a remote reset. You will not see anything on your end. But you must have the EHD plugged into the Hopper 3 when I do this. You will leave it plugged in for 72 hours, then we can check to see if it's updated.

Sam,

No change whatsoever.
None
Zilch
Nada

I am disappointed and PO'd with Dish's vaporware and inability to provide a solution.

I feel I have been subject to a bait and switch scheme.

Who in engineering is responsible for setting goals?

TIA

Bill

I have checked the report and this issue with the External Hard Drives is being review and worked on for a resolution.

It has been worked on since end of October when I reported it. Since it is only affecting a small number of us hope maybe to get it back by software update next spring

Sometime recently, Dish delivered the code to allow use of a USB3 EHD.

THANK YOU DISH!

Now, if I could only transfer recordings between the two external hard drives.

As it stands now, you can only transfer recordings to and from the INTERNAL HD to or from any of the EXTERNAL HDs, but cannot transfer recordings between the two EXTERNAL HDs.

Perhaps that fix is next?

That's the way it's always been (from the 722 through all versions of the Hopper). Don't think it will change or it would have by now.
